An audiologist is a professional who specializes in the evaluation and treatment of individuals with hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), dizziness, and balance problems. Audiologists have extensive training and skills to evaluate the hearing in adults, infants, and children of all ages. Audiologists conduct a wide variety of tests to determine the nature of an individual's hearing problem and can present a variety of treatment options. Audiologists dispense and fit hearing aids, administer balance test to evaluate dizziness/vertigo, and provide hearing (re)habilitation training. Audiologists refer patients to physicians when the hearing or balance problem require medical or surgical evaluation.
