Nominations and Elections

Do you have a passion for audiology, an eagerness to learn, the ability to work as a member of a team, and the willingness to share your time for the betterment of our profession? If so, please consider running for an MAA Board position. MAA members are invited each summer to submit nominations for candidates to serve on the Board of Directors for the upcoming year. A complete list of board positions and descriptions is available here.

Requirements for consideration are:

  • Photo of candidate
  • Letter of intent that attests to:
    • Understands requirements,
    • Agrees to use his/her best ability to carry out responsibilities, and
    • Agrees to support and further the MAA Vision & Mission
  • Supportive statement that includes: (will be provided to all MAA members)
    • Biographical sketch
    • Why you would be a good candidate
    • Whether you would consider being appointed treasurer of MAA and, if so, describe your prior experience
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Complete & submit conflict of interest disclosure statement (once elected)


Qualifications we look for in a candidate include:

  • An appreciation of the value of the profession served by MAA
  • Ability to understand the interests of diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to operate effectively in a variety of environments
  • Experience of assisting in change driven by strategic issues
  • Willingness and experience to serve others
  • Experience and appreciation of working in a collaborative, respectful, and productive way with people having diverse backgrounds and viewpoints
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Knowledge of or experience performing governing duties
  • Ability to use, in appropriate manner, a network of contacts for the purpose advocating for MAA and the profession
  • Willingness & ability to be an ambassador for MAA and the profession
Ballot
The election of the 2024 Board of Directors will be conducted electronically in the fall. All Fellow members will be eligible to vote for the 2024 Board of Directors. Student members are not eligible to vote in MAA elections.

Petition Process
The MAA Membership Development Committee will submit a slate of candidates for each open position to the Board of Directors for approval at least 30 days prior to presentation to the general membership for election.
 
The Membership Development Committee shall make every effort to assure that the slate of candidates is representative of the membership of the Minnesota Academy of Audiology. The Board of Directors will select from these candidates and present to the membership a final slate of nominated candidates.
 
The name and a brief biographical history of approved candidates shall be made available to the membership prior to election. Voting shall be by ballot, which will be distributed to the members. Write-in candidates will be accepted. Elections shall be completed by November 15 of each year for all positions on the Board of Directors. If all positions for the Board of Directors, which may include either officers or directors, are not properly filled by the election according to MAA bylaws, the President, subject to approval of the Board of Directors, may appoint either an officer and/or director in order to meet the requirements of full board composition. President Elect, President, Past-President, and Directors shall take office on January 1 of each year.

Election Schedule
Following are the important milestones in the 2024 nominations and election:
  • August 15, 2024 -- Deadline for receipt of nominations
  • August 22, 2024 -- Deadline for nominees to be notified of nomination status.
  • September 12, 2024 -- Deadline for candidate letter of intent, Vitae, supportive statement, biographical information, & photo
  • September 13, 2024 -- Membership Development Committee presents provisional slate of qualified candidates for each position to the Board of Directors. Board of Directors will determine the final slate of nominees for each open position.
  • September 17, 2024 -- Slate of nominated candidates (including biographical information/supportive statement) presented to MAA membership. Petition process opens
  • October 1, 2024 -- Electronic voting opens
  • October 31, 2024 -- Voting closed
  • November/December -- Election results announced to members pending Board of Directors notification of results
  • January 1, 2025 -- New officers take office
